Useful tips

Adjusting text size

You can resize the text on itlawco.com to suit your needs using your browser’s settings. Most browsers have options under “Settings” or “Preferences” where you can increase or decrease the font size.

Screen magnification

Use the built-in magnification tools on your operating system. On Windows, you can use the Magnifier tool. On macOS, go to “System Preferences”, then “Accessibility”, and select “Zoom”. These tools can enlarge parts of the screen to make text easier to read.

Enhancing mouse pointer visibility

To make your mouse pointer more visible, increase its size or add pointer trails. On Windows, go to Settings, then “Ease of Access”, and select “Mouse”. On macOS, go to System Preferences, then “Accessibility”, and select “Display” to adjust the cursor size.

Customising screen colours

Change the background colour of your screen in your browser settings to improve readability. For example, in Chrome, go to “Settings”, then “Appearance”, and choose “Theme” to select a different colour scheme.

Optimising mouse usage

You can adjust your mouse settings to make it easier to use. This includes changing the pointer’s speed, making it left-handed, or increasing its size. These options are typically found in the “Settings” or “Control Panel” under “Mouse” or “Accessibility”.

Improving keyboard usability

You can modify your keyboard settings to better suit your needs. This might include adjusting the repeat delay, enabling StickyKeys, or using features like Autocorrect and Autotext. These settings are under “Ease of Access” in Windows or “Accessibility” in macOS.

Using browser extensions

Consider installing browser extensions that enhance accessibility. Extensions like “Dark Reader” can change websites to dark mode, and “Read Aloud” can convert text to speech. They can be found in your browser’s extensions or add-ons store.

Keyboard shortcuts

Use keyboard shortcuts to navigate more efficiently. For example, on a Windows device, press Ctrl and + to zoom in and Ctrl and – to zoom out in most browsers. On macOS, press Command and + to zoom in and Command and -. Familiarise yourself with other accessibility shortcuts provided by your operating system and browser.

Voice command features

Use voice command features if available. Both Windows and macOS have voice command options that can help you navigate the web and your computer hands-free. On Windows, you can set this up under “Ease of Access”, and on macOS, under “Accessibility”.

Screen readers

If you have visual impairments, use screen readers. Popular options include NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) for Windows and VoiceOver for macOS. These tools can read aloud the text on the screen and help you navigate the website using keyboard shortcuts.
